Wesley Girls High School - 1992 Year Group: Remembering Our Sister Ewurafua

On that memorable rainy day in September 1987, a group of young girls including Ewurafua Archer, climbed the famous Wesley Girls High School hill as the new Form 1 class. We climbed that hill as strangers and 30+ plus years later we have become sisters, having the privilege of sharing in each other's lives. Ewurafua was in Bellamy House (Block A) as well as in the A Class. She was the small quiet one, always pleasant and with a sense of humour that had you laughing out loud which could get you in trouble if you were in class.

We lovingly referred to Ewurafua as Wasca as some of us inadvertently adopted our brothers’ nicknames. She was an Ewuraba; indeed, polite but steadfast, intelligent and a calming voice of reason for the Block A group and the A Class. Ewurafua was there for everyone. She never got into trouble, kept a cool head, and sailed through school. Afua had finesse and did not like to draw attention to herself; however, her quietness and gentle nature spoke volumes. She was a great sportswoman too. Nobody wanted to hurt her, everybody wanted to protect her because that was what she exuded, a delicate flower! We will always carry memories of Afua introducing herself when there was a new teacher in her sweet, gentle voice, Afuaaa Arrcherrr!!!!!!

She literally danced her way into our hearts because she was probably the best dancer in the dorm and entire house. She graciously became our barber too. The haircuts she gave us were better than what we came to school with, and the line of “clients” was sometimes very long. But she patiently fit in as many as time would allow. She later revealed her talent for singing and so continued to bless others with her gifts.

Her smile was enough to tell us we could count on her. She had a smile on her face all the time, whether you were her bestie or not! I think secretly she loved the company of the “crazy” ones as she always had a smile on her face and enjoyed our jokes in the A class. Don’t know how she managed it but both her class and house had the crazy girls in our group!

We spent five years together, with lots of memories as described by our classmates in this tribute. Some of us continued life's journey with Ewurafua through University where Ewurafura‘s powerful passion for music blossomed. It was lovely to be there on her wedding day, to share the joyous occasion. She served God diligently, singing with her church choir and serving the church. When it was our turn to host speech day, Afua was active and always participated in meetings.

Life gave Afua many reasons to be sour, but she remained a living example of faith, keeping her smile and her praise. Ewurafua, our hearts are heavy as we say goodbye, but we are comforted with the knowledge that you are singing in the heavenly choir now.

Dance on Afua, to the new world.
Dance Afua to a new song.
Dance Afua, it’s a new dance.

Rest, dear Ewurafua. Rest peacefully in the bosom of our Lord.
