To Our Sister Ewurafua from Her Cousins
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die. John 3:25
Ewurafua Kakraba, Rafes, Babylet, "Kiii" were just some of the nicknames that she was called by the family. It's hard to write about her in the past tense because in our minds, there was never any doubt we'd all grow old together, telling stories of our antics as kids and laughing at those days.
Those antics of scaling walls and playing in the Achimota courtyard instead of doing homework; of being chased by grandma's dogs and making it out alive at Ringway, of coming to London and renaming her Alice at church because Ewurafua would be too difficult to pronounce; of learning to drive and the instructor saying "you have a lead foot"; of being the family fashionista braiding our hair and saying to us , "a lady should always wear earrings!"; of having sing-dance contests in the living room. Oh Ewurafua! It still hasn't sunk in!
Her faith was everything to her - we remember when she came home in the 90s all those years ago, her excitement was palpable as she announced that she had been born again. It was this faith that fueled her whole character - her love for family, friends and church. Her immersing herself in Zion Praise brought out her true talent and inspired all around her to look to Christ. We remember watching and hearing her sing and feeling tears well up in our eyes because of the conviction with which she sang. Her faith was everything - in days of turmoil, she would say, I know that God has a purpose for this so I'll stick with it. More than four years of illness, of discomfort and pain, she never lost faith or said a word against her Lord and Savior. When sickness took her speech and mobility, she still called out for her bible in the only way she knew how - pointing.
August 12, 2021 will remain seared in our minds as the day when our beautiful, sweet and dear sister left us! However, we know that she is before her Savior and we will meet her again one day in glory.
Our sweet Ewurafua, da yie! Rest in perfect peace! We will miss your kind and caring soul here.
